 3/19/2002 Also known as Mihrimah Sultan Mosque and Uskudar Quay Mosque. It's often confused with the Mirimah Sultan Mosque in Edirnekapi. Iskele is the first of the 2 mosques built by Sinan for Mirimah, the daughter of Suleyman and the wife of Rustem Pasa.

12/1/2003 Rumor says Sinan was in love with Mihrimah Sultan, the daughter of Suleyman the Magnificent (aka Kanuni). He built the mosque in her name, but unfortunately the princess was married to Rustem Pasha.

4/1/2006 I also am very impressed with the Selimiye Camii in Edirne. There is a monument of Sinan in front of it. This is supposed to be his masterpiece.

7/9/2012 Hey there, finally gtneitg through checking out all of these great YIOM blogs!I just wanted to chime in and agree with you that just because it's gym yoga doesn't invalidate it. My first experiences with yoga were at my gym, and the three teachers whose classes I attended were some of the best instructors I've ever had, and that's including teachers with their own fancy yoga studios and Sanskrit names! The pointers and hints they gave me 5 years ago are still with me today. Granted, I did have a bad experience with a gym teacher who used phrases like that little doggie pose for downdog, but otherwise my gym has done a good job recruiting knowledgeable yoga instructors and even created a special mind and body studio so classes no longer have to take place among barbells and Bosus.

1/1/2013 The muslims lost this right after dcienrlag war on the west and specifically America. A mosque being built at ground zero, the site where muslims began their war on America, should not be allowed. Under normal circumstances the muslims would have freedom of religion and appropriate expression, however, after having declared war on us their rigts to spread their filth should be ceased immediately. How do we knoe this mosque won't serve as Terrorist HQ? The onus of proof should now be on the muslims to prove their peaceful intentions by total transparency and show some respect and move it elsewhere. I am aghast to hear so many westerners take umbrage at those who wish to burn the Koran on the principle that it violates respect and tolerance. The lack of respect and tolerance towards the west from muslims appears to have escaped their attention entirely. Building a mosque right where the muslims brutally murdered 3000+ people.

In its 1400 years, NOTHING has come out of the Islamic world but barbarism. Compare it to the Christian world. Where is the the Islamic Renaissance? Where is the Islamic Enlightenment? Where is any progress beyond the 7th century barbarism is clings to?First the Royal Library of Alexandria, then the pyramids and everything else that isn't Islamic. Only then will it be indistinguishable from the backwards poverty stricken countries that embrace Islam as Mohammed taught it. Pathetic...
