10/26/2001 Interior shot of the minbar (pulpit) and mihrab. The mihrab is a niche in the wall indicating qibla, the direction of prayer, towards the Ka'aba in Mecca (Makkah), Saudi Arabia. This mosque competes with Rustem Pasa Mosque (Sinan, Istanbul, 1561) and Sultan Ahmet Mosque (a.k.a. Blue Mosque, near by, 1609) for its use of Isnik ceramic tile mosaics. What you see here around the Mihrab is considered by some to be the finest example. The mosaics contain a floral pattern (commonly stylized tulips) and Arabic or Kufic inscriptions. Inscriptions are used the way Christians might use depictions of God or man, which is forbidden by Islam. All those lightbulbs use to be oil lamps, but that would damage the craftsmanship let alone your lungs.
4/6/2005 Beautiful piece of architecture. Iznik tiles are gorgeous.
5/2/2005 Indeed very beautiful interior of the mosque.
But my Islamic brothers, despite having so many mosques, why today most of them are waiting for the people to come in for 5 times prayers?
This is realy a big tragedy and its the time to think about seriously before Allah's Punishment decends on us( May Allah save us all, Aameen).
Lets repent from our sins and come back to Allmighty Allah who loves his slaves 70 times more than our mothers.
Lets pray with 'Jama' in the Mosques 5 times a day every day.
Fee Amanillah
3/7/2006 It is a shame that the mosques in Turkey are not as packed as they used to be a hundred years ago, but you will see that almost all mosques in every part of Turkey will be full for the Cuma prayer. Our religion's perfect wisdom commands only the Cuma prayer to be a collective event. Under normal circumstances, Turkish people are working during the day and often cannot leave their workplace to go pray at the nearest mosque. This does represent a contrast to some other Islamic countries where all men do is to sit around drinking coffee and chay all day. Under those circumstances, it is normal that more people show up to the mosques.
