Requirements
Customer/User Requirements
That's right. That's you. LogJam isn't for everyone.
- You must know how to unzip a zip file so that it restores folders.
- Although it's not required, it helps if you know a little SQL. SQL is used as part of designing new reports.
PC Requirements
Follow these requirements for a local PC or for a remote, dedicated PC on which you have complete administrator privileges.
- Windows XP/2000/NT4 running Microsoft IIS 3.0 or higher (inc. .NET) or Windows 98 running Microsoft Personal Web Server (PWS) 1.0 or higher.
- Log files in the W3C Extended Log File format. This is the default format for IIS and PWS.
- Microsoft MDAC 2.1 SP2 or higher. An upgrade to MDAC 2.1 SP2 is only needed for Windows NT and 98 running IIS 3.0. For the download, visit http://www.microsoft.com/data/. If you are cumfotable using regedit, you can check the version you have installed by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DataAccess\FullInstallVer. Otherwise, use the Microsoft Component Checker.
Hosting Service Requirements
Follow these requirements for a Virtual or Shared Hosting Account (many accounts on one PC) or for a Managed Account on a dedicated PC (only one account on the PC).
Hosts tend to keep their equipment up-to-date.
So you shouldn't need to concern yourself with PC requirements.
- Microsoft Windows NT4/2000/XP.
- Microsoft IIS 3.0 or later.
- Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP) or ASP.NET.
- Read access to the log files directory from the web server. (And not just FTP access.) All hosts use the same standard W3C Extended Log File format. So the format is not an issue.
- Write access to a working directory: This is where your databases and some other files are placed.
Pre-approved Shared Hosting Services
All the Windows plans from these hosts support LogJam.
